Our Maintenance Classes are free for Club 99 Members. In this 1 hour session you'll learn how to

  1. Use basic bike tools

  2. Clean and degrease your bike

  3. Change a tyre and tube

  4. Resolve simple mechanical issues


Meet the Team

  • Name: Richard ⚡ 

    Role: Team Leader

    Experience: I've spent 30+ years in retail, sales & marketing and retail operations roles. During this time I've been involved in re-branding projects, growing sales, product development and have opened many new retail locations for various companies. I really enjoy the opportunity to work in all areas of a business and get to know the people and the inner workings of what makes things tick and how to improve the business and create unique and enjoyable customer experiences. 

    Expertise: Always learning and like to try and provide great customer service each and every time.

    What do you love about bikes: In my younger days bikes were simply a means of getting from A to B, but they also meant freedom to get around and go where you wanted to go. Now I'm just riding for pleasure and love the fact that riding gives you the opportunity to stay in shape, meet new people, go to some amazing places and have a lot of fun with friends...and when I'm stupid enough to try a new downhill run that's above my pay grade, its both exhilarating and challenging.

    Current bikes:  Specialized Stumpjumper

    Favourite ride: I like it all and have a lot of trails on bucket list. So far my favorite would have to be the end section of The Ghost Road...beautiful part of the country and I even managed to catch fish on the Mokihinui River on one visit.

    Role: Mechanic

    Experience: I've been with 99 Bikes for 3 years, mixing both Sales and Mechanic work. I am deeply passionate about Road, Cyclocross, Gravel and Mountain Bike. I also enjoy geeking out on the latest tech releases.

    Expertise: Road, Gravel, Cyclocross, XC, Indoor trainers

    What do you love about bikes: The freedom bikes provide and the sense of acheivement completing a ride or an event.

    Favourite ride: Any SouthernCross CX Cyclocross Race!

  • Name: Emma ⚡ 

    Role: Sales Consultant

    Experience: I'm new to the industry but have 12+ years in sales/retail roles. 

    Expertise: Electric Bikes & Mountain Bikes.

    What do you love about bikes: I love being able to get out in nature and get out of my comfort zone. I love the sense of accomplishment after a ride. 

    Current bikes:  Cube Stereo 150 and a Marin Gestalt X11.

    Favourite ride: Gung Ho at the Christchurch Adventure Park.

  • Name: Sidney ⚡ 

    Role: Sales Consultant

    Experience: This is my first job in the bike industry but have been riding bikes my whole life so not completely new!

    Expertise: Mountain Bikes.

    What do you love about bikes: Getting out in the hills and riding with mates. Riding steep descents that push me past my comfort point!

    Current bikes: Trek Remedy.

    Favourite ride: Anything that's new or harder than I can comfortably ride!

    Role: Bike Builder

    Experience: I had worked in Bicycle Industry Manufacturer and Supply Chain in Taiwan.

    Expertise: Commuter Bicycle, Road Bikes, E-Bikes.

    What do you love about bikes: Bicycle that will change the way you see the word.

    Current bikes:Merida Scultura, Specialized Turbo Levo, Focus Sam2.

    Favourite ride: Christchurch Adventure Park/ Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail. Enjoy the great ride, and become involved in it's development.

  • Name: Jaime

    Role: Bike Builder

    Experience: Previously owned my own bike shop. Prior to this I worked as a bike mechanic for 5 years for a large chain bike store in Chile.

    Expertise: Experienced bike mechanic and have good experience working on older/classic bikes. 

    What do you love about bikes: I love the feel of being able to go where you want to on your own steam. I love the outdoors and the feeling of reaching the top of a great climb and enjoying the view.

    Current bikes: My classic Specialized road is favourite.

    Favourite ride: Riding out to Sumner beach and exploring Christchurch and its many cycle pathways.

    Role: Sales Consultant

    Expertise: I'm new to cycling. but am an active person that loves to see others active. The energy of the 99 Bikes Hornby is always welcoming and highlights our "The World's most approachabke bike shop" mantra.

    What do you love about bikes? I love how bikes make physical fitness more accessible, especially with E-Bikes being a popular addition to the cycling world.
