At 99 Bikes, we believe in living by our purpose, which is why we have initiatives in place to make sure the world is a better place with us in it. As a member of Pedal Group, we are guided by 10 philosophies that help us make and challenge decisions every day. The 10th philosophy states “Purpose Drives Profit”. Profit is the best measure of success, but that is worth nothing if we don’t execute our core purpose. We do the right thing, not the easy or self serving thing. Our philosophies and purpose are our longstanding beliefs and these initiatives are some of the ways we act on them.
Our Purpose Initiatives
UPCYCLE
Every August we run our pedal upcycle program. Anyone can bring in their old bike to a 99 Bikes store, and we'll give them $50 to go towards a new bike, then we'll upcycle their old bike back into shape and donate it to a local charity, this allows us to give back to our communities and get more people on bikes.
EARNING TO GIVE
Our earning to give program is where we donate the equivalent of 1% of our employees wages to their chosen charity. Some of the charities our team members have chosen to support this year include EcoMatters Environment Trust, SPCA, Starship Foundation, Women's Refuge, New Zealand Conservation Trust and World Wildlife Fund
RIDE TO WORK
We pay our employees a ride to work bonus. We encourage healthy active lifestyles and this helps reduce traffic congestion, with less cars on the road and less pollution for our planet.
PERSONAL WELLBEING
As well as internal support, we offer our employees access to an external “well-being” portal that helps with all aspects of their life, including physical, mental, social and financial. This service also includes initial one on one coaching and counselling service.
