Leatt started in South Africa in 2001 when Dr Chris Leatt, watching a motocross crash, vowed to design gear that reduces serious injuries. His first product was a neck brace, built using what became the Alternative Load Path Technology to redirect crash forces away from the spine. The company formally launched in 2005, and since then has added armour, helmets, apparel and more, all tested in their Cape Town Leatt Lab.
