Reliable security starts here with Kryptonite – the brand trusted by bike riders for over 50 years to protect what’s most important. We bring serious lock‐engineering without making security feel intimidating or expensive. Grab peace of mind for your ride, so you can focus on the fun.

The Kryptonite Story

Kryptonite began in 1972 when founder Michael Zane built the first U-lock and tested it in New York, locking a bike to a signpost in Greenwich Village for thirty days. Thieves removed every part that could be stolen, except the frame locked with Kryptonite. That moment defined the standard for what a strong bike lock should be. The company introduced its signature Anti-Theft Guarantee in 1977, offering compensation if a bike was taken using their product.

Over the decades, Kryptonite has stayed true to its roots in security innovation. It revamped lock mechanisms in response to flaws such as a tubular key vulnerability. It launched the Key Safe Program so riders can register and replace lost keys. Today all that heritage means you get tested materials, clear security ratings, and designs made to resist real theft methods in real cities—not just lab tests.

Why Ride Kryptonite?

  • Heritage of proven design. The original U-lock design was invented by Kryptonite and put to public test back in the 1970s, so their designs are built on lessons learned from real theft attempts.
  • Security materials you can trust. Hardened steel shackles, folding links, drilled and cut-resistant chains are chosen to resist bolt cutters, drills, leverage tools and harsh conditions.
  • Dedication to fixing flaws. When a locking mechanism vulnerability was found with the original tubular key design, Kryptonite replaced hundreds of thousands of affected locks under a voluntary exchange.
  • Support and replacement programs. With the Key Safe Program you can register your lock and get replacement keys; their Anti-Theft Guarantee backs products with defined protection commitments.

Popular Kryptonite Ranges Explained

Kryptonite Keeper

Kryptonite Keeper offers lightweight folding locks made from hardened steel links. They give enough flexibility to lock both frame and wheel to racks or posts, yet fold flat for easy carrying. Ideal for commuters or city riders who want good security without bulk.

Kryptonite Kryptolok

Kryptonite Kryptolok delivers compact folding locks with tough 5 millimetre hardened steel links and a transport bracket. The design lets you stow the lock easily, but still offers durable protection for moderate-risk lock-ups, such as locking to street racks or lampposts.
